2010 Château Lynch-Bages, Pauillac, Bordeaux – 750ML

Château Lynch-Bages, the Fifth Growth of Pauillac, produced a particularly structured and long-lived wine in 2010, a vintage marked by small, thick-skinned berries, substantial tannins and notably fresh acidity. More taut and classically proportioned than the opulent 2009, the 2010 remains Cabernet-driven and powerful, with the concentration and freshness to continue evolving for many years.

Blend: 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot.

Tasting Notes: Cassis, blackberry and dark cherry are layered with graphite, cedar, cigar box and earthy, savory notes. The palate is deep and concentrated, with dense black fruit, tobacco and mineral character framed by firm, increasingly polished tannins and a long, fresh finish.

Structure: Full-bodied, muscular and firmly built, with substantial Cabernet Sauvignon tannins balanced by the vintage’s excellent acidity. At more than 15 years from harvest, the wine remains relatively youthful for Lynch-Bages, showing considerable depth and structure beneath its developing secondary complexity.

Drink Window: Now–2045. The 2010 can be enjoyed today with sufficient air, particularly by those who appreciate structured Pauillac, but well-stored bottles have ample potential for further development as the tannins resolve and more tertiary character emerges.

Decanting: Stand the bottle upright beforehand to settle any sediment. If drinking now, decant carefully and allow approximately 60–90 minutes of air; its substantial structure warrants more aeration than a fully mature Bordeaux, while the wine’s evolution in the glass should still guide serving.

The 2010 Lynch-Bages is a compelling choice for collectors who favor the estate’s more classical, structured side. It has the concentration for continued cellaring but is beginning to offer the cedar, graphite and savory complexity that make mature Pauillac so rewarding, particularly alongside roast lamb, prime beef or game.
