From one of the Côte de Nuits’ most revered Grand Cru vineyards, the 2013 Grands Echézeaux from Domaine Georges Noëllat is a refined, mineral-driven Burgundy with remarkable purity and poise. Under Maxime Cheurlin, the domaine has become especially admired for wines that combine concentration with finesse, and this 2013 shows that balance beautifully, with structure and depth carried by freshness rather than weight.
Blend: 100% Pinot Noir.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of raspberry, red cherry, crushed stone, exotic spice, and floral notes lead into a finely textured palate with impressive energy and density. The fruit remains pure and lifted, while smoky mineral tones, subtle earth, and fine-grained tannins add complexity. The finish is long, savory, and distinctly mineral, with grip but no harshness.
Structure: Concentrated, elegant, and firmly structured, with fine tannins, mineral tension, and excellent length.
Drink Window: 2025–2038. Burghound’s original assessment suggested the tannins would need roughly 12 years to fully resolve, while Neal Martin gave a broader 2018–2035 window.
Decanting: At this stage, decant gently for approximately 30–45 minutes. The wine has entered a more expressive phase, but careful aeration will help reveal its floral, mineral, and red-fruited complexity without stripping away delicacy.
For collectors of mature Grand Cru Burgundy, this is a compelling bottle at an attractive point in its evolution. It has the pedigree and depth for a special dinner or important cellar, while its combination of perfume, mineral precision, and increasingly resolved structure makes it particularly appealing for drinking now with roast duck, game birds, or other refined savory dishes.
