Domaine Leflaive is one of Puligny-Montrachet’s benchmark white Burgundy estates, and its Bourgogne Blanc carries considerably more geographic interest than the appellation alone might suggest. Produced from Chardonnay grown in the domaine’s Puligny-Montrachet holdings and farmed biodynamically, the 2015 combines the generosity of a warm, successful vintage with more than a decade of bottle development.
Blend: 100% Chardonnay.
Tasting Notes: Ripe pear and yellow apple have moved toward a more developed register of hazelnut, beeswax and gentle toast, with dried flowers and a subtle stony character adding complexity. The palate is rounded and textural, with mature orchard fruit and savory depth balanced by enough acidity to keep the finish composed.
Structure: Medium-bodied, with the breadth expected from 2015 now softened into a supple, integrated texture. The wine’s appeal at this stage lies less in youthful tension than in the interplay between mature Chardonnay richness, acidity and developing savory complexity.
Drink Window: Now–2029. At more than a decade from harvest, this Bourgogne Blanc should be considered mature and ready to drink. Well-stored bottles may hold beyond this range, but provenance and storage history are increasingly important, and there is little reason to defer enjoyment in search of greater complexity.
Decanting: No extended decanting is necessary. Serve around 50–54°F in a Burgundy glass and allow the wine to open naturally; with mature white Burgundy, excessive chilling can obscure much of the texture and aromatic development.
For collectors, the appeal here extends well beyond the Bourgogne designation: it is mature Chardonnay from one of Puligny-Montrachet’s defining domaines, with the estate’s viticultural pedigree behind it. The 2015 is especially attractive for drinking now alongside roast poultry, sole, scallops, veal or mushroom dishes, where its developed texture and savory character can be fully appreciated.
