96 Points – James Suckling
A classified Fifth Growth of Pauillac, Château Clerc Milon delivers a particularly polished expression in the powerful 2018 vintage. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, giving the wine classic Pauillac authority, while Merlot and the estate’s supporting varieties bring richness, aromatic complexity, and suppleness.
Blend: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot, 1% Carmenère.
Tasting Notes: Blackcurrant and dark berries lead into violet, liquorice, spice, mint, and graphite-like mineral tones. The palate is dense yet composed, with ripe dark fruit, silky tannins, pepper, dark chocolate, and freshness carrying through a persistent finish.
Structure: Concentrated, polished, and age-worthy, with firm Pauillac structure balanced by generous fruit and refined tannins.
Drink Window: 2026–2045.
Decanting: Decant for approximately 1½–2 hours if opening now. The additional air will help soften the wine’s youthful structure and bring greater definition to its cassis, floral, spice, and mineral character.
The 2018 Clerc Milon is an excellent choice for collectors seeking serious Pauillac with both pedigree and immediate sensory appeal. It has the depth to reward further cellaring, yet with proper decanting it is already compelling alongside prime rib, roast lamb, or another special-occasion meal.
