96 Points – James Suckling
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey has become one of the most respected names in contemporary white Burgundy, producing Chardonnay distinguished by precision, mineral tension and restrained use of oak. Les Chenevottes is a Premier Cru vineyard on the northern side of Chassagne-Montrachet, close to the Puligny-Montrachet boundary, where limestone-rich soils contribute freshness and definition. The 2018 vintage brings generous fruit concentration, beautifully balanced by the vineyard’s characteristic energy and the producer’s focused winemaking style.
Blend: 100% Chardonnay.
Tasting Notes: Ripe pear, white peach and preserved lemon unfold alongside toasted hazelnut, subtle brioche and a delicate smoky note. The palate is concentrated yet vibrant, with layers of citrus, orchard fruit and gentle spice supported by a chalky mineral undertone. A persistent finish combines ripe fruit with refreshing acidity and savory precision.
Structure: Medium to full-bodied, with impressive mid-palate density, lively acidity and a finely textured, mineral-driven finish. The warmth of 2018 lends richness, while the wine retains the tension and definition that distinguish Colin-Morey’s white Burgundies.
Drink Window: Now–2034. Entering a rewarding stage of maturity, with its youthful fruit beginning to develop more complex toasted and savory nuances. Properly stored bottles should continue to evolve over the coming years.
Decanting: At its current age, begin by serving without decanting and allow the wine to develop in the glass. If initially restrained, a brief 15–20 minutes of gentle aeration may help; serve around 52–55°F in a generous white Burgundy glass.
The 2018 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Les Chenevottes offers collectors an opportunity to experience a distinguished Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru with both vintage richness and precise vineyard expression. Its balance of depth, freshness and developing complexity makes it an excellent choice for fine seafood, lobster, roast poultry or an occasion centered on serious white Burgundy.
