Produced from vineyards within the historic commune of Monforte d’Alba, Diego Conterno’s Barolo captures the darker, more structured side of the appellation. The estate farms parcels across classic Monforte sites with calcareous clay soils that tend to produce Barolo with depth, firm tannins, and notable longevity. The excellent 2019 vintage—widely regarded as one of the strongest in the past decade—delivered Nebbiolo of concentration and aromatic precision, resulting in a Barolo that balances power with freshness.
Blend: 100% Nebbiolo.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of rose petal, dried cherry, and wild strawberry rise from the glass, layered with notes of licorice, tar, crushed herbs, and subtle earth. The palate is structured and energetic, revealing flavors of red currant, sour cherry, spice, and mineral undertones. Firm yet polished tannins frame a long, savory finish typical of Monforte’s powerful Barolo style.
Structure: Structured and age-worthy with firm tannins and vibrant acidity.
Drink Window: 2026–2045.
Decanting: In its youth, decant for 1–2 hours to soften the tannins and allow Nebbiolo’s aromatic complexity to unfold.
This commune-designated Barolo offers a classic expression of Monforte d’Alba—combining depth, structure, and aromatic lift. For collectors and enthusiasts seeking a traditionally styled Barolo from an excellent vintage, it represents both authenticity and strong cellaring potential.
