Marchese Antinori Riserva is produced at Tenuta Tignanello, drawing on one of the Antinori family’s most important estates in the heart of Chianti Classico. The 2022 balances the warmth of the growing season with the freshness and savory definition of Sangiovese, delivering a polished Riserva with both immediate appeal and useful cellar potential.
Blend: Predominantly Sangiovese with complementary red varieties.
Tasting Notes: Ripe red cherry and raspberry lead into violet, dried herbs and orange peel, with tobacco, cedar and sweet spice adding complexity. The palate is generous yet energetic, with juicy red fruit, savory undertones and polished tannins carrying through a persistent, gently spiced finish.
Structure: Medium to full-bodied, with bright Sangiovese acidity balancing the ripe fruit and supple texture. Fine-grained tannins provide definition and enough structure for further development without making the wine forbidding in its youth.
Drink Window: Now–2035. The 2022 is already approachable with aeration, but another two to four years should bring greater integration and more savory complexity. Its balance and structure suggest a comfortable evolution through the next decade.
Decanting: Give the wine approximately 45–60 minutes in a decanter if opening now. Serve around 60–64°F in a generous Sangiovese or Burgundy-style glass to emphasize its aromatic character and freshness.
Marchese Antinori Riserva occupies an appealing position between everyday Chianti Classico and the more cellar-demanding wines of the region, with the added distinction of its Tenuta Tignanello origins. The 2022 is versatile enough for a Tuscan dinner while carrying the pedigree and presentation for gifting or short- to medium-term cellaring, particularly alongside bistecca, roast lamb, wild boar ragù, porcini or aged Pecorino.
