97 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
Tignanello occupies a defining place in modern Tuscan wine, produced from its namesake vineyard at Tenuta Tignanello in the heart of Chianti Classico. The 2022 reflects the warmth and concentration of the vintage while retaining the freshness and mineral definition that keep its generous fruit in focus, delivering a polished expression of Sangiovese complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Blend: 78% Sangiovese, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc.
Tasting Notes: Ripe black cherry, red cherry and pomegranate lead into violet, blackcurrant and fresh balsamic notes, with layers of sweet spice, tobacco and restrained vanilla emerging with air. The palate is concentrated and silky, balancing generous fruit with savory nuances, mineral tension and a long, finely structured finish.
Structure: Full-bodied yet composed, with dense fruit framed by firm, velvety tannins and well-integrated acidity. Sangiovese provides freshness and savory definition, while the Cabernet components contribute depth, structure and dark-fruited character.
Drink Window: 2026–2045. The 2022 has the fruit and polish to be enjoyed young with aeration, but its concentration, tannic structure and freshness make it particularly well suited to extended cellaring.
Decanting: If opening now, decant for approximately 60–90 minutes to allow the youthful fruit, tannins and oak to integrate more fully. Serve slightly below room temperature in a generous Bordeaux-style glass.
Tignanello remains a reference point for serious modern Tuscan wine, and the 2022 combines immediate richness with the structure required for a long evolution in bottle. It is equally suited to a significant dinner, a cellar purchase or gifting, particularly for collectors who appreciate the intersection of Sangiovese’s Tuscan character with the depth and polish of Cabernet.
