Quintodecimo, founded by renowned enologist Luigi Moio, approaches Campania’s native varieties with unusual precision, and Via del Campo demonstrates just how serious Falanghina can be. Produced from a single vineyard in Mirabella Eclano, the 2022 combines ripe Mediterranean fruit with mineral definition, saline freshness and a notably refined texture.
Blend: 100% Falanghina.
Tasting Notes: Yellow peach, green apple and grapefruit are joined by floral notes, subtle tropical fruit and a touch of almond. The palate is supple and layered, with ripe orchard fruit, lemon zest and gentle spice giving way to a persistent saline and mineral finish.
Structure: Medium-bodied and textural, with lively acidity balancing a slightly waxy, rounded mid-palate. Mineral tension and citrus-pith grip provide definition, while subtle oak influence adds breadth without obscuring the variety’s freshness.
Drink Window: Now–2029. Already showing attractive complexity and texture, with sufficient acidity and concentration to continue developing savory and nutty nuances over the next several years.
Decanting: No extended decanting is necessary. Serve moderately chilled and allow 15–20 minutes in the glass; at its current age, a little air helps reveal the wine’s floral, citrus and mineral dimensions.
Via del Campo is a compelling choice for those interested in the more ambitious side of southern Italian white wine, offering considerably more texture and complexity than everyday Falanghina. Its combination of richness, acidity and salinity makes it particularly well suited to grilled fish, shellfish, seafood risotto, white meats and richer Mediterranean dishes.
