From the northern slopes of Mount Etna, Girolamo Russo has become one of the benchmark estates translating the mountain’s volcanic terroir into precise, mineral-driven wines. The “Nerina” Etna Bianco comes from high-elevation vineyards rooted in black lava soils, and the warm yet balanced 2023 vintage delivers a vibrant expression of Carricante and native white varieties with the energy and tension that define the appellation.
Blend: Predominantly Carricante with small amounts of Catarratto, Minnella, and Grecanico.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of lemon zest, white peach, crushed stone, and Mediterranean herbs open into a focused palate of citrus, green apple, saline minerality, and subtle almond. The volcanic soils impart a smoky, flinty nuance, while bright acidity drives a long, refreshing finish.
Structure: Taut, mineral-driven, and energetic.
Drink Window: 2024–2029.
Decanting: Not required, though a brief 10–15 minutes in the glass helps reveal the wine’s layered aromatics and mineral detail. Serve lightly chilled.
“Nerina” offers one of the most compelling introductions to Etna’s white wines—combining alpine freshness, volcanic precision, and Mediterranean texture. It is equally at home in a collector’s cellar or alongside seafood-driven cuisine, where its saline lift and vibrant acidity shine.
