Ulli Stein’s “Blauschiefer” is a vivid expression of dry Mosel Riesling, sourced from mature, ungrafted vines planted on the steep blue-slate slopes around Sankt Aldegund. The 2024 release is especially linear and energetic, combining crystalline fruit with the saline, stony character that defines this distinctive bottling.
Blend: 100% Riesling.
Tasting Notes: Bright aromas of green apple, white peach and lemon peel unfold alongside white flowers, crushed herbs and smoky slate. The palate is light-footed yet intensely focused, with mouthwatering acidity, subtle citrus-pith bitterness and a persistent, mineral-driven finish.
Structure: Bone-dry, lean and precise, with vibrant acidity and pronounced mineral tension.
Drink Window: Enjoy now through 2032.
Decanting: No extended decanting is required. Serve well chilled and allow 10–15 minutes in the glass for the wine’s floral and mineral detail to emerge.
A compelling choice for lovers of pure, incisive Riesling, “Blauschiefer” offers the clarity and tension of serious Mosel terroir in an immediately enjoyable format. It is equally suited to fresh seafood and vibrant vegetable dishes or to quiet cellar drinking when a crisp, finely etched white is called for.
