From the Ladoucette family, Comte Lafond is a polished expression of Sancerre, combining the appellation’s characteristic freshness and mineral drive with an appealing breadth of fruit. The 2025 shows excellent clarity and energy, balancing citrus and orchard fruit with the cool, stony character that gives serious Sancerre its distinctive edge.
Blend: 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
Tasting Notes: Pale gold and crystalline in appearance, with aromas of lemon and orange peel opening into white peach, pear and a subtle suggestion of honey and mint. The palate is lively and refreshing, carrying ripe citrus and orchard fruit through to a persistent, stony mineral finish.
Structure: Bright acidity provides definition and lift, while a gently rounded mid-palate gives the wine more presence than a purely lean style of Sauvignon Blanc. The finish is dry, clean and mineral-driven.
Drink Window: 2026–2031. Delicious in its youth for its freshness and aromatic expression, with enough balance to develop additional savory and mineral complexity over several years.
Decanting: No extended decanting is necessary. Serve well chilled but not icy; 15–20 minutes in the glass or a brief decant will allow the fruit and mineral nuances to open.
A particularly versatile bottle for seafood, shellfish, grilled fish and Loire goat cheeses, this is Sancerre with enough substance for the table while retaining the freshness that makes the appellation so appealing. It is equally well suited to an elegant aperitif or a seafood-centered dinner where crispness, precision and understated complexity are the priority.
