Château L’Évangile occupies a privileged position on the Pomerol plateau, close to some of the appellation’s most distinguished vineyards. The 1993 proved particularly successful in the context of a challenging Bordeaux vintage, producing a supple, elegant L’Évangile that has now reached full maturity.

Blend: Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

Tasting Notes: Mature plum and black raspberry give way to truffle, cedar and dried flowers, with leather and earthy nuances becoming increasingly prominent in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and supple, favoring texture and savory complexity over power, with resolved tannins and a gently persistent finish.

Structure: Soft and fully evolved, with Merlot providing the wine’s rounded texture and Cabernet Franc contributing definition and aromatic lift. At more than 30 years from harvest, the tannins are largely resolved and the wine’s appeal lies in its delicacy, mature complexity and remaining balance.

Drink Window: Drink now. Robert Parker originally considered the wine ready to drink and projected a substantially earlier maturity window; today, any well-preserved bottle should be approached as fully mature. Provenance, storage history and fill level are especially important at this age.

Decanting: Stand the bottle upright well in advance to settle sediment. Open carefully and taste before decanting; if necessary, decant gently for sediment immediately before service, avoiding prolonged aeration that could diminish its mature aromatics.

The 1993 L’Évangile is best understood as a mature Pomerol experience rather than a bottle to cellar further. For collectors who appreciate the softer, truffle-and-earth character of aged Right Bank Bordeaux—or for a 1993 birth-year or anniversary dinner—it offers the opportunity to drink a distinguished estate at a fully developed stage.
