[88–90 Points] Typical quality range for well-made Barbera d’Asti from the strong 2005 Piedmont vintage.
Produced in the rolling hills of Piedmont, Barbera d’Asti represents one of the region’s most expressive interpretations of the Barbera grape. The “Bric dei Banditi” bottling takes its name from the traditional Piedmontese term bric, referring to a hilltop vineyard site. The 2005 vintage in Piedmont delivered balanced ripeness and vibrant acidity—conditions particularly well suited to Barbera’s naturally energetic profile.
Blend: 100% Barbera
Tasting Notes:
The nose opens with aromas of ripe black cherry, plum, and blackberry, accented by notes of dried herbs, baking spice, and subtle earthy undertones. On the palate, the wine shows classic Barbera brightness with juicy red and dark fruit layered alongside hints of cocoa, leather, and toasted oak. The finish is lively and persistent, framed by the grape’s signature acidity.
Structure: Medium-bodied, vibrant, and fruit-driven with refreshing acidity.
Drink Window: 2008–2025
Decanting:
Given its maturity, a gentle decant of 20–30 minutes is recommended to allow the wine to open while preserving its remaining aromatics.
A mature expression of Piedmont’s beloved everyday noble grape, the 2005 Bric dei Banditi Barbera d’Asti offers supple fruit, regional character, and an approachable profile that pairs beautifully with classic Italian cuisine—from pasta with ragù to aged cheeses.
