Palmes d’Or is Nicolas Feuillatte’s prestige vintage cuvée, produced only in selected years and presented in its distinctive faceted bottle. The 2008 brings together equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with 95% of the blend drawn from Grand Cru vineyards and extended cellar aging giving the wine a mature, vinous dimension while preserving the tension of this celebrated Champagne vintage.

Blend: 50% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes: Golden apple and apricot are layered with toasted almond, brioche and gentle spice, followed by smoky, flinty and chalk-driven nuances. The palate is broad and creamy yet remains precise, with fine bubbles, mature fruit and savory complexity carried by a persistent mineral finish.

Structure: Richer and more vinous than a youthful aperitif-style Champagne, with Pinot Noir providing depth and Chardonnay contributing freshness and mineral definition. Extended lees aging has brought a fine, integrated mousse and substantial texture without sacrificing the wine’s underlying tension.

Drink Window: Now–2035. The 2008 is drinking beautifully today, with its extended maturation already delivering considerable complexity, while the vintage’s structure and freshness provide scope for further development. Continued cellaring should move the wine toward more toasted, nutty and savory territory.

Decanting: No decanting is necessary. Serve around 48–52°F in a tulip-shaped Champagne glass or white-wine glass, allowing the wine to warm gradually and reveal its more mature, vinous character.

Palmes d’Or 2008 has the substance to move well beyond the opening toast and accompany a meal, particularly shellfish, richer fish preparations, sweetbreads or poultry. Its combination of prestige-cuvée positioning, long cellar aging and the strength of the 2008 vintage also makes it a compelling Champagne for an anniversary, gift or special dinner where the bottle itself is intended to have presence.
