100 Points – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Château Mouton Rothschild, elevated to First Growth status in 1973, produced one of the defining wines of the exceptional 2010 Bordeaux vintage. With Cabernet Sauvignon accounting for 94% of the blend, the wine is particularly focused and structured, combining Mouton’s characteristic richness with the freshness, tannic authority and precision that distinguish 2010 on the Left Bank.

Blend: 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot.

Tasting Notes: Cassis, blackberry and black cherry form a concentrated core, layered with graphite, cedar, violet and tobacco. With air, notes of licorice, espresso and savory spice emerge, while the palate remains deep and remarkably controlled, carrying dense dark fruit and mineral detail through a long, persistent finish.

Structure: Full-bodied and powerful, with substantial Cabernet Sauvignon tannins that remain finely textured but unmistakably youthful. Fresh acidity provides tension beneath the wine’s concentration, giving the 2010 exceptional balance and the architecture for several more decades of development.

Drink Window: Now–2060+. The 2010 can be enjoyed today with substantial aeration, but it remains relatively early in its evolution. For those seeking greater cedar, tobacco and tertiary complexity alongside the fruit, another five to ten years of cellaring should be well rewarded; impeccably stored bottles have a very long life ahead.

Decanting: If opening now, decant for approximately two hours, tasting periodically as the wine unfolds. Serve around 60–64°F in a generous Bordeaux glass; despite its age, this remains a powerful, structured wine that benefits from meaningful aeration.

The 2010 Mouton Rothschild brings together First Growth pedigree, a benchmark Bordeaux vintage and a perfect critical reception in a wine built for serious long-term cellaring. It is equally appropriate as a cornerstone cellar bottle or for a milestone dinner today, where its scale and complexity are best matched with simply prepared prime beef, roast lamb or game.
