98 Points – James Suckling
The 2013 Dom Pérignon reflects an unusually late Champagne harvest, following a long, cool growing season that gave the vintage notable tension, precision and longevity. The Luminous edition presents the same vintage Dom Pérignon in its distinctive illuminated-label bottle, adding visual impact for gifting, celebrations and table service without changing the wine inside.
Blend: 51% Pinot Noir, 49% Chardonnay.
Tasting Notes: Mirabelle plum, apricot and crisp orchard fruit are layered with white flowers, toasted brioche, almond and subtle smoky notes, with mint, spice and chalky nuances emerging as the wine opens. The palate is silky and finely detailed, balancing creamy texture with vivid acidity before a long, saline and mineral-driven finish.
Structure: Medium to full-bodied for Champagne, with a fine mousse and considerable mid-palate depth held in check by bright acidity and pronounced mineral tension. The 2013 is more linear and reserved than overtly opulent, giving it both precision today and the framework for further development.
Drink Window: Now–2040+. The 2013 is already compelling, but its freshness and tightly composed structure make it an excellent candidate for further cellaring. Expect additional brioche, toasted nut and savory complexity as the wine moves beyond its primary fruit.
Decanting: Do not decant. Serve around 48–52°F in a tulip-shaped Champagne or white-wine glass rather than a narrow flute, allowing the wine to warm slightly and open gradually in the glass.
The 2013 Dom Pérignon combines serious cellar credentials with the immediate occasion appeal of the Luminous presentation. It is particularly well suited to milestone celebrations, gifting or evening service, while the wine itself has the depth to carry a meal—from oysters and shellfish through lobster, turbot, roast poultry or aged Parmesan.98 Points – James Suckling.
