95+ Points – Vinous, Eric Guido
Joaquin’s “Della Società” is a powerful, deeply individual expression of Taurasi, produced from Aglianico in Campania’s Irpinia hills. The 2015 Riserva shows the grandeur of mature old-vine Taurasi: dark-fruited, savory, mineral, and firmly structured, with the concentration and acidity to continue evolving beautifully. Sources note ungrafted pre-phylloxera Aglianico vines estimated at 150–200 years old, with aging in previously used oak and acacia casks.
Blend: 100% Aglianico.
Tasting Notes: Deep aromas of black cherry, plum, wild berries, dried violet, lavender, tobacco, leather, dark chocolate, balsamic spice, and damp earth. The palate is dense yet composed, with layered dark fruit, cool herbal tones, volcanic minerality, and polished but persistent tannins carrying through a long, savory finish.
Structure: Full-bodied, concentrated, tannic, and age-worthy, with vibrant acidity and excellent depth.
Drink Window: 2025–2045.
Decanting: Decant for 2–3 hours if opening now, especially from a well-stored bottle. As it matures further, a gentle 60–90 minute decant should be sufficient, with care taken for any sediment.
This is a compelling bottle for collectors drawn to the more serious side of Southern Italy—powerful, distinctive, and built for the cellar. At the table, it is best suited to rich, savory dishes such as braised beef, lamb, aged cheeses, truffle-accented pastas, and slow-cooked game, while also offering the presence and rarity expected of a special-occasion Taurasi Riserva.
