Tenuta di Trinoro is Andrea Franchetti’s flagship Tuscan red, produced from densely planted vineyards in the Val d’Orcia near Sarteano, far from the coastal territory associated with many of Tuscany’s Bordeaux-inspired wines. The 2015 is a particularly complete expression of the estate’s style, combining the ripeness of the warm vintage with Cabernet Franc perfume, substantial concentration and the freshness of Trinoro’s high-elevation setting.

Blend: 50% Cabernet Franc, 36% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot.

Tasting Notes: Blackberry, black cherry and plum are layered with violet, graphite and fresh herbs, followed by licorice, tobacco and dark spice as the wine opens. The palate is dense and enveloping without feeling heavy, with concentrated dark fruit, savory depth and polished tannins carrying through a long, detailed finish.

Structure: Full-bodied and concentrated, with Cabernet Franc providing aromatic lift and a firm structural spine while Merlot adds breadth and texture. The tannins remain substantial but have begun to integrate with bottle age, and sufficient freshness keeps the wine defined beneath its considerable richness.

Drink Window: Now–2040. The 2015 is entering a compelling stage where its fruit remains generous but the structure is beginning to relax and more savory complexity is emerging. It has ample depth for further cellaring, though there is no need to postpone opening a well-stored bottle today.

Decanting: Decant for approximately 60 minutes if opening now, allowing the aromatics and texture to unfold without excessive aeration. Serve around 60–64°F in a generous Bordeaux-style glass.

The 2015 Tenuta di Trinoro offers a distinctive interpretation of Tuscany, shaped less by traditional regional varieties than by its singular site and Cabernet Franc-led blend. With a decade of development behind it, the wine now balances its original concentration with greater nuance, making it equally compelling for the cellar or alongside prime beef, lamb, game or porcini at a serious dinner.
