A Third Growth of the 1855 Classification, Château Cantenac-Brown occupies a substantial vineyard holding in Margaux and is known for a Cabernet-led style that combines depth with the appellation’s aromatic refinement. The excellent 2016 vintage brought a long, even ripening season, giving the wine concentration and ripe tannins without sacrificing the freshness and balance that have made the year particularly successful in the Médoc.

Blend: 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot.

Tasting Notes: Blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry are joined by violet, cedar and mint, with black pepper, tea leaf and subtle earthy notes emerging with air. The palate is silky and layered, carrying ripe dark fruit over fine-grained tannins with a mineral undertone and savory detail through the long finish.

Structure: Medium to full-bodied, with Cabernet Sauvignon providing a firm, precise backbone and Merlot adding breadth through the mid-palate. The tannins are polished but still present, while fresh acidity keeps the wine composed and energetic as it begins to move beyond its youthful phase.

Drink Window: Now–2045. The 2016 is entering an attractive early stage of maturity and can be enjoyed today with aeration, but its balance, tannic structure and freshness provide ample scope for another 15 years or more of development.

Decanting: If opening now, decant for approximately 60 minutes to allow the aromatics and structure to unfold. Serve around 60–64°F in a generous Bordeaux glass.

The 2016 Cantenac-Brown captures much of what makes this vintage so appealing in Margaux: ripe Cabernet fruit, fine tannins and freshness rather than excess weight. With Third Growth pedigree and enough bottle age to begin showing greater complexity, it is equally compelling for the cellar or a dinner today alongside roast lamb, prime beef, duck or game.
