96–98 Point Vintage (vintage consensus: a warm, opulent, and highly successful Bordeaux vintage delivering richness, ripe tannins, and impressive balance on the Left Bank).
Château Palmer stands among Margaux’s most revered Third Growth estates, celebrated for its biodynamic viticulture and its distinctive, Merlot-influenced elegance. In 2018, Palmer crafted a wine that harmonizes the generosity of the vintage with its signature aromatic finesse and textural refinement — producing a Margaux of depth, sensuality, and precision.
Blend: Predominantly Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and a small portion of Petit Verdot (classic estate composition).
Tasting Notes: The nose is intense and perfumed, revealing black cherry, ripe plum, and cassis layered with violet, rose petal, graphite, and subtle dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet seamless, offering blackberry, blackcurrant, cocoa, and fine spice. The tannins are velvety and enveloping, balanced by underlying freshness that carries through a long, floral-tinged finish with remarkable persistence.
Structure: Opulent yet impeccably structured, with polished tannins and excellent balance.
Drink Window: 2026–2055+
Decanting: If opened in its youth, decant 2–4 hours to allow the structure to soften and the aromatics to fully unfurl. As the wine matures, a shorter decant to remove sediment will suffice.
The 2018 Palmer is a compelling expression of modern Margaux — rich, aromatic, and layered, yet refined in its architecture. A cornerstone vintage for collectors, it offers both seductive near-term depth with aeration and the capacity for decades of graceful evolution.
