2021 Le Petit Smith Haut-Lafitte, Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux - 750ml

91–93 Point Vintage (vintage consensus: a cooler, fresher Bordeaux vintage marked by precision, moderate alcohol, and a return to classical structure, particularly successful in well-managed estates).

Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte is the second wine of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, crafted from younger vines and select parcels while maintaining the estate’s signature attention to detail. In the fresher 2021 vintage, the wine reflects clarity, balance, and terroir expression — offering a more approachable interpretation of this respected Pessac-Léognan property.

Blend: Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and small portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot (classic estate composition; proportions vary by vintage).

Tasting Notes: The nose reveals blackcurrant, red cherry, and plum layered with graphite, subtle smoke, and cedar. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and precise, offering fresh dark berries, light cocoa, and a touch of earthy minerality. The tannins are fine and well-integrated, with bright acidity lending lift and energy through a clean, balanced finish.

Structure: Fresh, medium-bodied, and classically proportioned with refined tannins.

Drink Window: 2024–2035

Decanting: Decant 30–60 minutes before serving to allow the aromatics to open and the texture to soften. Extended aeration is not necessary.

The 2021 Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte delivers polished Pessac-Léognan character in a supple, accessible style. A smart choice for near-term enjoyment, it offers estate pedigree and terroir expression without the wait required for the Grand Vin.
