96 Points – Decanter
Thibault Liger-Belair’s 2021 Corton-Charlemagne comes from a tiny parcel in Les Languettes on the southern side of the Corton hill, near the border with Clos du Roi. Produced in extremely small quantity (one barrel), the wine captures the cooler 2021 vintage with impressive concentration, freshness, and mineral drive, while retaining the natural breadth expected of Corton-Charlemagne.
Blend: 100% Chardonnay.
Tasting Notes: Ripe apple and citrus lead into layers of hazelnut, subtle butter, smoke, white flowers, and stony minerality. The palate is broad and concentrated, yet lifted by firm acidity and a saline, limestone-driven tension. Richness and freshness remain finely balanced through a long, persistent finish.
Structure: Powerful, concentrated, mineral-driven, and highly age-worthy.
Drink Window: 2026–2042
Decanting: If opening young, decant for approximately 45–60 minutes and serve in a generously sized Burgundy glass. With additional bottle age, a shorter period of air will be sufficient to reveal the wine’s layered aromatics and mineral complexity.
This is a compelling bottle for collectors who appreciate white Burgundy with both scale and precision. Its rarity, Grand Cru pedigree, and combination of Corton richness with 2021 freshness make it equally suited to long-term cellaring, an important dinner, or a special occasion where a serious and distinctive Chardonnay is called for.
