Thibault Liger-Belair’s “Au Leurey – Vigne de 1937” comes from an old-vine parcel at the southern end of the Côte de Nuits-Villages appellation, planted predominantly in 1937. Its shallow, limestone-rich soils and southeast exposure give the wine an attractive combination of ripeness, freshness, and distinctly Burgundian restraint.
Blend: 100% Pinot Noir.
Tasting Notes: Fragrant red cherry, raspberry, redcurrant, and blackcurrant lead into subtle notes of forest floor, herbs, and a faint minty lift. The palate is medium-bodied and finely drawn, with fresh acidity, supple tannins, and an appealing mineral tension that keeps the fruit precise rather than plush. The finish is clean, persistent, and quietly savory.
Structure: Fresh, elegant, and finely structured, with old-vine depth and polished tannins.
Drink Window: 2025–2034
Decanting: Decant for approximately 30–45 minutes if opening now. The 2021 vintage is more about aromatic detail and finesse than sheer power, so prolonged aeration is unnecessary.
For Burgundy drinkers who value nuance over weight, this is a particularly attractive Côte de Nuits-Villages. Its old-vine pedigree gives it added depth while the cooler 2021 vintage preserves freshness and transparency, making it an excellent bottle for roast poultry, duck, mushrooms, or an elegant dinner where a refined, expressive Pinot Noir is called for.
