94 Points – James Suckling
Perched high above the Napa Valley floor, CADE has established itself as one of Howell Mountain's leading estates, crafting Cabernet Sauvignon that captures the appellation's distinctive combination of power, structure, and mountain-grown intensity. The warm 2022 growing season produced a wine of impressive concentration and depth, while the estate's elevated vineyards preserved freshness, color, and the hallmark tannic framework that defines great Howell Mountain Cabernet.
Blend: 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec, 1% Merlot.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, tobacco leaf, mocha, and graphite rise from the glass, complemented by nuances of licorice, crushed rock, and mountain herbs. The palate is full-bodied and layered, delivering concentrated dark fruit framed by firm mountain tannins and vibrant acidity. Notes of blackberry bush, spice, bark, and mineral complexity linger through a long, structured finish.
Structure: Powerful and age-worthy with concentrated fruit, firm tannins, and classic Howell Mountain depth.
Drink Window: 2027–2042
Decanting: Decant for 2–3 hours when serving in its youth to allow the wine's aromatics and texture to fully emerge. Serve at 60–65°F (16–18°C). Older bottles may require only a brief decant to remove sediment.
The 2022 CADE Cabernet Sauvignon is a compelling expression of Howell Mountain, offering the depth, structure, and longevity sought by collectors of mountain-grown Napa Cabernet. Whether destined for a cellar or opened alongside prime rib, grilled steaks, or game dishes, it delivers the intensity and refinement that have made Howell Mountain one of Napa Valley's most revered Cabernet-producing appellations.
