Sito Moresco offers an accessible introduction to Gaja’s Piedmont portfolio, bringing Nebbiolo together with Barbera and Merlot in a polished Langhe red intended to show both regional character and early approachability. The 2022 emphasizes fragrant fruit, freshness and supple texture rather than the formidable tannic architecture of the estate’s Barbaresco and single-vineyard Nebbiolo wines.
Blend: Nebbiolo, Barbera and Merlot
Tasting Notes: Red cherry, raspberry and wild berries lead into violet, dried rose and subtle herbal notes, with touches of spice and earth emerging with air. The palate is fresh and harmonious, with juicy red fruit, savory undertones and fine tannins carrying through a clean, persistent finish.
Structure: Medium-bodied, with bright acidity and polished, relatively supple tannins. Nebbiolo supplies aromatic lift and structure, while Barbera contributes freshness and Merlot rounds the wine’s texture, creating a balanced style that is considerably more approachable in youth than traditional Barolo or Barbaresco.
Drink Window: Now–2032. The 2022 is already appealing for its freshness and fruit, and while short- to medium-term cellaring should add savory complexity, there is little reason to wait for extended maturity.
Decanting: Give the wine approximately 30 minutes of air if opening now; a generous glass may be sufficient if serving over the course of a meal. Serve around 60–64°F to preserve its aromatic freshness and definition.
Sito Moresco is particularly well suited to the table, offering the pedigree and precision associated with Gaja in a less imposing, earlier-drinking expression. Its combination of red fruit, freshness and restrained tannin makes the 2022 versatile with mushroom risotto, truffle pasta, roast chicken, veal, grilled meats or aged Piedmontese cheeses.
