93+ Points – Vinous, Neal Martin
From one of Chassagne-Montrachet’s most distinguished Premier Cru sites, Les Blanchots-Dessus sits in an exceptional sector of the appellation, producing Chardonnay of notable mineral definition and refinement. Vincent Girardin’s 2022 combines the vintage’s generous fruit with impressive precision, freshness, and underlying tension, making this a particularly compelling expression of Premier Cru Chassagne-Montrachet.
Blend: 100% Chardonnay
Tasting Notes: Refined aromas of ripe yellow apple, citrus, beeswax, white flowers, and crushed stone unfold gradually in the glass. The palate is concentrated yet poised, with layers of orchard fruit and lemon carried by finely judged acidity and a distinctly mineral core. Subtle reduction adds complexity in its youth, while the finish is long, saline, and increasingly precise with air.
Structure: Concentrated, taut, mineral-driven, and built for graceful development.
Drink Window: 2026–2040
Decanting: In its youth, give the wine approximately 45–60 minutes of air in a decanter or generously sized Burgundy glass. As it gains bottle age, careful opening shortly before service should be sufficient.
For collectors of serious white Burgundy, this is a beautifully positioned bottle: refined enough for an elegant dinner, structured enough for the cellar, and distinctive enough for an important occasion. Its combination of Chassagne richness and limestone-driven precision makes it equally appealing to drink alongside refined seafood, poultry, or richer cream-based dishes, or to hold as the wine develops greater aromatic complexity over the coming decade.
