Jean-Claude Boisset’s “Les Ursulines” is a polished introduction to red Burgundy, produced from Pinot Noir grown on clay-limestone soils and named for the historic Ursulines winery at the heart of the maison. The 2023 vintage offers an appealing combination of ripe fruit, freshness and supple texture, making it approachable young while retaining a distinctly Burgundian sense of restraint.
Blend: 100% Pinot Noir.
Tasting Notes: Bright garnet in color, with aromas of red cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant accented by a gentle peppery spice. The palate is fresh and generous, with juicy red fruit, subtle savory notes and silky tannins carrying through a clean, balanced finish.
Structure: Fresh, supple and medium-bodied, with silky tannins and an easy, polished finish.
Drink Window: Drink now through 2029. The wine is already approachable, and its fruit-forward profile favors enjoyment in the near to medium term; Guide Hachette recommends 2025–2028.
Decanting: No extended decanting is necessary. Serve around 55–60°F and allow 15–20 minutes in the glass, or a brief splash decant, to bring out the wine’s red-fruit and spice character.
“Les Ursulines” is an attractive choice for the drinker seeking an accessible, well-made Burgundy Rouge with genuine Pinot Noir character. Its freshness and silky texture make it particularly versatile with roast chicken, pork, salmon, mushroom dishes or charcuterie, while its approachable style also makes it an easy bottle to open for a relaxed dinner.
