Pierre Girardin is one of the most closely watched young producers in Burgundy, crafting a precise, modern style of Chardonnay from his base in Meursault. The 2023 Éclat de Calcaire is sourced from Côte de Beaune parcels, with reported fruit predominantly from Meursault and a smaller contribution from Pommard, giving the wine both mineral tension and generous mid-palate depth.
Blend: 100% Chardonnay.
Tasting Notes: Bright citrus, green apple and ripe pear lead into white flowers, crushed stone and a subtle flinty reduction. The palate is energetic and finely textured, balancing lemon and orchard fruit with a creamy undertone, restrained oak and a distinctly saline, mineral-driven finish.
Structure: Fresh, concentrated and mineral, with vibrant acidity, polished texture and well-integrated oak.
Drink Window: 2026–2031. Already approachable with air, but likely to gain additional integration and complexity over the next several years.
Decanting: A brief 20–30 minute decant is recommended when opening young, particularly to allow the wine’s reductive, flinty character to settle and its fruit to become more expressive.
Éclat de Calcaire offers much of the tension, texture and mineral character associated with more ambitious Côte de Beaune Chardonnay at the Bourgogne level. It is an especially appealing bottle for those who enjoy focused, contemporary white Burgundy, equally suited to seafood and richer poultry dishes now or to several years of short-term cellaring.
