93+ Points – Falstaff (Ulrich Sautter)
Heinrichshof’s Piesporter Goldtröpfchen GG is a remarkably small-production expression of one of the Mosel’s most celebrated vineyard sites. The Goldtröpfchen fruit comes to Heinrichshof through a grape exchange with fellow Mosel grower Stephan Steinmetz, yielding a dry Riesling of striking concentration, precision, and slate-driven intensity.
Blend: 100% Riesling.
Tasting Notes: Ripe stone fruit and citrus unfold over a distinctly mineral core, with notes of peach, yellow plum, lemon zest, crushed rock, and subtle meadow herbs. The palate is concentrated yet finely etched, balancing generous fruit with bright acidity and an intense slate character that carries through the long, dry finish.
Structure: Powerful and concentrated for Mosel Riesling, yet precise and finely tensioned, with vibrant acidity, pronounced minerality, and excellent aging potential.
Drink Window: 2026–2038.
Decanting: When opened young, decant for 30–60 minutes to allow the wine’s fruit, mineral detail, and underlying complexity to emerge. Serve moderately chilled rather than ice-cold.
Produced in exceptionally limited quantity—the distributor reports only a single 500-liter barrel—the 2024 Goldtröpfchen GG has the intimacy of a true small-production cellar find. For the Riesling collector, it offers the combination that makes top dry Mosel so compelling: vineyard pedigree, incisive minerality, concentration without heaviness, and the ability to evolve beautifully in the cellar while remaining immensely satisfying at the table.
