96–98 Point Vintage (vintage consensus: a structured, classically styled, and exceptionally successful Bordeaux vintage defined by precision, purity of fruit, and long-term aging potential).
Ségla is the second wine of Château Rauzan-Ségla, crafted from younger vines and selected parcels with the same meticulous vineyard management and élevage philosophy as the Grand Vin. In the outstanding 2016 vintage, Ségla overdelivers — capturing the refinement and aromatic lift of Margaux while offering earlier approachability and polished structure.
Blend: Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and small portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot (typical estate composition).
Tasting Notes: The nose reveals blackcurrant, ripe cherry, and crushed raspberry layered with violet, cedar, and subtle graphite. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with excellent clarity, offering cassis, red plum, cocoa, and fine spice. The tannins are refined and well-integrated, providing structure without heaviness, and the finish carries Margaux’s hallmark floral lift and elegance.
Structure: Balanced and polished with fine-grained tannins and classic Left Bank definition.
Drink Window: 2022–2040
Decanting: Decant 1–2 hours if opened now to allow the aromatics to fully express and the structure to soften. As the wine matures, a gentle decant for sediment will be sufficient.
The 2016 Ségla represents a compelling entry into one of Margaux’s most respected estates. Offering pedigree, precision, and earlier accessibility than the Grand Vin, it is a smart acquisition for both near-term enjoyment and mid-term cellaring within this benchmark vintage.
