Brand: Kavalan
Acclaim: Kavalan Oloroso Sherry Oak Single Malt Whisky brings Taiwan’s celebrated whisky craftsmanship into a richly sherried, approachable 46% ABV expression. It was named a Category Winner at the World Whiskies Awards 2020, where judges praised its balance, viscosity, stone-fruit depth, and polished oak structure.
Producer: Kavalan is produced by Kavalan Distillery in Taiwan’s Yilan County, a region whose warm, humid climate encourages rapid interaction between spirit and oak. The distillery has become one of the leading names in world whisky, known for expressive single malts that show generous fruit, textural richness, and careful cask selection.
Taste: Matured in Oloroso sherry oak, this whisky offers a deep, inviting profile of dried fig, raisin, molasses, baked pear, roasted nuts, cocoa, and polished spice. The palate is lush and rounded, carrying stewed stone fruit, dark toffee, almond, licorice, and warming oak tannin into a long, sherry-soaked finish.
Serve: Best enjoyed neat in a tulip glass to capture its aromatic depth, or with a few drops of water to open the dried-fruit and spice notes. A large cube can also soften the texture, though this is a whisky whose richness is most compelling when served simply and thoughtfully.
Finish: Kavalan Oloroso Sherry Oak is a beautifully concentrated Taiwanese single malt for lovers of sherried whisky: generous, polished, and full of dark-fruited character. Elegant enough for gifting and satisfying enough for contemplative sipping, it delivers a luxurious bridge between classic sherry-cask tradition and Kavalan’s unmistakably vibrant house style.
