Heitz Cellars’ Lot C-91 is a historic Napa Valley cuvée positioned above the estate’s classic Napa Cabernet, assembled from treasured parcels across western Oakville, eastern Rutherford, southeast Howell Mountain, and the St. Helena foothills. In the superb 2019 vintage, it captures the house’s signature precision and restraint while delivering the added depth, layering, and age-worthiness that have made Lot C-91 one of the most compelling modern expressions in the Heitz portfolio.
Blend: Primarily Cabernet Sauvignon; 2019 is sourced from Martha’s Vineyard, Trailside, Howell Mountain, and Linda Falls parcels.
Tasting Notes: Aromatically lifted and classically Napa in profile, with black currant, blackberry, slate, lead pencil, wet earth, and dark floral tones. The palate shows finely detailed Cabernet fruit, layered with mineral tension, savory nuance, and a poised, persistent finish carried by polished tannins rather than sheer weight.
Structure: Concentrated and age-worthy; focused, mineral, and finely structured.
Drink Window: 2026–2042. This is a conservative estimate based on the wine’s structure, vineyard pedigree, and critical assessments of its cellaring potential.
Decanting: If opened young, decant for 1.5 to 2 hours to allow the tannins to soften and the wine’s aromatic complexity to unfold. In magnum, the wine will evolve more slowly, rewarding both extended aeration in the near term and longer cellar time overall.
In 1.5L format, the 2019 Lot C-91 carries even greater presence for the table and even stronger appeal for the cellar. This is a serious Napa Cabernet for collectors who value pedigree, classical proportion, and a format built to develop with grace over the coming decades.
