92 Points – Vinous
Laherte-Frères is a family-run grower Champagne estate based in Chavot-Courcourt in the Côteaux Sud d’Épernay, known for expressive, terroir-driven wines with a particularly strong affinity for Pinot Meunier. Brut Ultradition is the estate’s generous, accessible introduction, combining multiple vineyard sites and reserve wines to create a Champagne with both immediate charm and distinctive grower character.
Blend: 60% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Noir, with a substantial portion of reserve wines from prior vintages.
Tasting Notes: Expressive aromas of ripe orchard fruit, pear and citrus are layered with dried flowers, subtle spice, fresh bread and a gentle honeyed richness. The palate is creamy and vinous, with fine mousse, bright acidity and enough mineral tension to keep its generous Meunier-driven fruit precise and energetic.
Structure: Generous and textured, yet fresh and finely balanced, with polished mousse and a persistent, savory finish.
Drink Window: Drink now through 2031; particularly compelling in its youth for its freshness and fruit, with sufficient structure for several years of further development.
Decanting: No traditional decanting is necessary. Serve at approximately 46–50°F and allow the wine several minutes in a Champagne or white-wine glass to open, particularly if recently disgorged.
Brut Ultradition is an excellent choice for the Champagne drinker who wants something more individual than a conventional house Brut without sacrificing versatility or polish. Equally suited to aperitif service, shellfish, roast poultry or a celebratory table, it offers the texture and personality of grower Champagne in a style that remains highly approachable.
