94 Points – Vinous
Larmandier-Bernier is one of the leading grower-producers of the Côte des Blancs, known for organically farmed Chardonnay, low dosage, and a vinous, terroir-driven style. “Latitude” comes entirely from Chardonnay grown in the richer soils south of Vertus, giving this cuvée a broader, more generous profile than the estate’s more linear “Longitude,” while preserving the purity and mineral character that define the house.
Blend: 100% Chardonnay, including 40% reserve wine from a perpetual reserve begun in 2004.
Tasting Notes: Broad and expressive, with lemon confit, pear, tangerine peel and white flowers layered with marzipan, subtle pastry, mint and chalk. The palate is creamy and ample, yet energized by bright acidity and a fine mousse, finishing with citrus, mineral detail and a distinctly dry, composed edge.
Structure: Round and vinous, with generous texture, fine mousse and excellent freshness.
Drink Window: Drink now through 2030. The producer considers Latitude approachable on release and suitable for a few years of additional aging, while the magnum format should allow particularly graceful development.
Decanting: No decanting required. Serve at approximately 48–52°F in generous Champagne or white-wine glasses and allow several minutes after pouring for the wine’s citrus, pastry and chalky nuances to emerge.
In magnum, Latitude is especially compelling for entertaining, celebrations and larger-format cellaring. Its combination of grower-Champagne character, pure Chardonnay fruit and a fuller, more welcoming Côte des Blancs style makes it an excellent choice for a dinner table, special gathering or collector seeking a distinctive large-format Champagne with both immediate appeal and refinement.
