One of the smallest classified growths of Margaux, Château Ferrière has emerged in recent decades as one of the appellation’s most compelling quality revivals under the stewardship of Claire Villars-Lurton. The organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards sit on classic deep gravel soils neighboring estates such as Château Lascombes and Château Brane-Cantenac. In the cooler, classical 2021 vintage, Ferrière produced a wine of precision and aromatic lift, capturing Margaux’s hallmark elegance and floral complexity.
Blend: 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc.
Tasting Notes: Fragrant aromas of blackcurrant, red plum, violet, and crushed rose petals unfold alongside graphite, cedar, and subtle spice. The palate is refined and finely textured, offering layers of red berries, cassis, and mineral nuance framed by silky tannins and fresh acidity. A graceful Margaux expression with notable purity and aromatic persistence.
Structure: Elegant, refined, and classically proportioned.
Drink Window: 2026–2042.
Decanting: If opening in its youth, decant for 60–90 minutes to allow the wine’s floral aromatics and Cabernet-driven structure to fully emerge.
Château Ferrière remains one of Margaux’s most compelling value-driven classified growths, particularly in balanced vintages like 2021 where finesse and terroir transparency take center stage. For collectors and Bordeaux enthusiasts alike, it offers authentic Left Bank character with excellent aging potential and unmistakable Margaux charm.
